Meet some of the members of our Team
Successful financial representatives with The Hubbell Financial Group experience tremendous pride and satisfaction in building a practice from the ground up. Their success is not a factor of luck or chance; it's the result of a productive work ethic, strong relationship skills and a level of professionalism second to none.

A mission of doing what's right for our clients is the thread that weaves together our organization and that includes contribution to our local community as well.

Meet some of The Hubbell Financial Group financial representatives that exemplify this mission.

Tom IrvinTom Irvin, Financial Representative
Tom Irvin has been a member of The Hubbell Financial Group since 1995. He describes his experience in choosing the financial representative career:

"After 20 years in the retail business, I decided I wanted to pursue a career that would allow me control of my time, but yet kept me in front of clients who I loved to work with. Having been a Northwestern Mutual client for 25 years and knowing the quality of their products, this new career choice was easy. Now I have the freedom to work with people who care about their futures and their families and continue the community service work that I so love to do."

And to rewards his efforts, Tom Irvin received a Community Service Award from the Northwestern Mutual Foundation. Tom was named an "Outstanding Volunteer" for his work with the Children's Home Society in Wenatchee, Wash. As a board member of its regional headquarters, Irvin has helped countless children through the organization, which offers support services to youth struggling with family relationships and academic challenges. The organization received a $10,000 grant from the Northwestern Mutual Foundation. The money was used to extend the Parent and Teachers for Children (PATCH) program to the economically depressed Upper Wenatchee Valley. The program focuses on academic success through parental involvement. The grant from Northwestern Mutual was an instrumental component in the organization's budget last year.

Irvin feels that the company actively encourages volunteerism from its Financial Representatives, which may help to explain Northwestern Mutual's reputation in the industry.

"It seems inherent in a Northwestern Mutual Financial Representative to volunteer in the community. This award and the grant demonstrates Northwestern Mutual's commitment to being a positive corporate citizen."

Debbie HamiltonDebbie Hamilton, Financial Representative
Debbie Hamilton has been a part of The Hubbell Financial Group since 1991.

Since 1976, Hospice of Spokane has provided care and support to terminally ill people in their homes. For some, it is not possible to remain at home – they require 24-hour nursing care or they are without family or caregivers. There is a great need in our community for a home-like setting that supports these individuals: a warm and welcoming home-away-from-home called the Hospice House.

The Hubbell Financial Group is not only a major financial supporter of the Hospice House project, but continues to help raise funds for the capital campaign. Debbie Hamilton has been a part of the Hospice Golf Committee since 1991.

She was primary organizer, and Northwestern Mutual volunteers contributed their time and talents to this event, which benefits Hospice House.

One hundred twenty-nine golfers came out on Sept. 12 to raise funds for the Hospice House project, a planned 20-private room home-like facility for terminally ill clients who cannot remain at home for their final days.

Career Insights
Ken Wagar has been a Financial Representative with The Hubbell Financial Group since 1978. Read what he has to say about his career as a financial representative.

Ken WagarKen Wagar, Financial Representative
I was a college student and a college intern with NMFN. I chose this profession because of the satisfaction of helping people meet their financial goals.

I appreciate the freedom the business affords, such as income potential, independence of time and ability to choose your clients. It has its challenges, too, like managing a growing practice and the changes that come with a changing business climate. And early on, it was challenging to see enough people and stay focused on activity. But over time, I have learned honesty and integrity are my most important values and that being with Northwestern Mutual has allowed me to fully exercise these values in the workplace.

Making a Difference
A client, who later died of complications from multiple sclerosis, graciously thanked me for helping him to implement his life insurance program. He said he wouldn’t have done it on his own. Northwestern Mutual waived his life insurance premiums for about six years before he finally died. He experienced a disability, a living death, and a physical death.

Looking Forward
I hope to have at least a 50-year career with the Network. I’m just completing my 27th year, so I’m half-way there.

Internships
Whether you know where your college education is taking you or you're still keeping your options open, you owe it to yourself to see if Northwestern Mutual Financial Network's Internship program with The Hubbell Financial Group is right for you.

As you learn by doing, you'll find that the Northwestern Mutual Financial Network Internship Program is an intense and according to our alumni -- unparalleled learning experience. Expect the process to be rewarding, educational and an opportunity for you to narrow your career search.

Our internships provide a great chance for students to combine what they've learned in the classroom with a real-life look into what they could truly make of themselves. You'll have the chance to work in a real-world business environment and earn performance-based compensation.

The ambition of the Northwestern Mutual Financial Network Internship program has been less to sell our financial products than to develop people. As a Financial Representative College Intern, you will enjoy the benefit of working with The Hubbell Financial Group where you'll receive outstanding guidance, superior support and quality expertise.

As full-time college students, interns generally work 15 to 20 hours per week developing business- and client-building skills. In most ways, our interns follow the same process for establishing their careers as our Financial Representatives.

Our internship offers you invaluable business experience that you will take with you far into your career. But that's just the start of the impact this can have on your future and your present.

Consider these benefits:

  • Practical guidance in your career selection process
  • The chance to develop your networking and business relationship skills
  • Flexible work schedule
  • Securities license, state licenses for life, health and accident insurance opportunities and a head start program for a career as a full-time Financial Representative
  • Compensation in the same manner as a full-time Financial Representative.
  • Actual business experience for your resume.
  • Test drive the Financial Representative career.

Regardless of what you do after graduation, you'll have a foundation of skills and knowledge to build your career upon. One out of three former interns becomes a full-time Financial Representative upon graduation. These graduates have built a solid foundation for immediate and future career success.

The two-thirds who choose other career paths benefit as well. They launch their career with stronger business-building skills and a clearer sense of where they want their career to take them.

After completing the internship, the knowledge you have gained, coupled with the opportunity to work for The Hubbell Financial Group as a full-time Financial Representative, can lead you to a profitable and fulfilling future.
