We are seeking a Summer 2024 Engineering Intern to work in the Aero Thermal Fluids Engineering group at our Redmond, WA facility. Under close supervision of senior engineering staff, the Intern will support analysis activities related to heat transfer, fluid dynamics, combustion, and rotating machinery of liquid rocket propulsion systems and components.

In our Redmond, WA, site (Seattle area), we fabricate, assemble, and test chemical and electric thrusters, as well as small scale propulsion systems. Our electric propulsion systems enable a wide variety of missions from the exploration of our solar system to global communication and the surveillance of severe weather and wild fires.

80% - Perform thermal or fluid dynamics analysis of liquid rocket propulsion systems and components under supervision of senior engineering staff. Prepare analysis models and review analysis results with the senior analysts. Assist in reducing engine test data to validate results of analysis models.
10% - Support verification tests of propulsion systems and components. Work with designers and project engineer to provide analysis support.
10% - Produce analysis reports and test reports, and present analysis results to both internal and external customers.
Candidates must be at least a junior standing in a Bachelor's program of Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (Graduate students preferred), and return to school following the internship. Coursework in Thermodynamics required. Coursework in Heat Transfer strongly preferred. Strong academic track record of success.
Requires U.S. Citizenship, U.S. Permanent Residency or other status as a U.S. Person. Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.
Work Environment/Physical Requirements:
Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require occasional walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
