Responsibilities

Summary

Assists management in the overall coordination of the receiving, booking, and maintenance of records for newly arriving detainees/inmates. Monitors detainee/inmate activities and enforces policies and procedures of the company and contracting agency.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assists in the coordination and maintenance of the intake process and master roster of newly arrived detainees/inmates assigned to the facility as required by company and contracting agency policies and procedures.
  • Confirms the facility has legal authority to admit and the accurate identification of the incoming detainees/inmates. Reviews admission documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Coordinates and monitors detainee movements, transfer records, conducts counts, and provides emergency response as required.
  • Searches incoming detainee/inmate property for contraband. Conducts shakedown for contraband materials, either individually or as part of a specialized team. Confiscates contraband in accordance to facility and contracting agency policies and procedures.
  • Conducts strip searches of detainee/inmate as needed in accordance to facility and contracting agency policy and procedures.
  • Supervises the work direction of the count room staff.
  • May complete initial incoming prisoner questionnaires and initiate a detainee file.
  • Coordinates tally of counts as they are reported during each count period. Advises responsible supervisor when count is clear or any discrepancies. Develops and maintains clear records of counts and results.
  • Prepares reports and maintains daily logs as required.
  • Supervises detainees/inmates in detainee/inmate intake area. May provide detainee/inmate supervision and security in other areas as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent certification required.
  • College coursework and advanced training in behavioral sciences, correctional services or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience working in a correctional setting. Booking or intake experience preferred.
  • Must be mature, flexible, intellectually alert, able to command the respect and confidence of detainees/inmates and staff and possess a high tolerance to mental stress.
  • Must have a proven work history with sound abilities to communicate both verbally and in writing. Must have the ability to maintain records, files and prepare reports.
  • Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
